September 2021 Newsletter

September 22, 2021

Hello Loon Lakers!  We’ve been busy working on your behalf including a very successful Pancake Breakfast, Meat Pie Fundraiser and Horseshoe Tournament.  We’ve had volunteers open Hook, Wine & Sinker, the old concession turned local shop, which sells items exclusive to Loon Lake (LL) including LL apparel such as t-shirts, jackets, tea towels, donated local art and honey.

Members voted to purchase a TNRD fire suppression system, that the LLVFD placed on the roof of the community hall and did some tests.  Good results this year will ensure we are up and running before wildfire season next year.  Thank you to those involved in helping keep our community safe.  In 2022, LLCRAS will be asking our membership for permission to protect the Annex building, currently housing the LLVFD as well.  It’s too late in the year for this and there will need to be some research into our water system’s capability and cost estimates to be presented.

Our 2021/2022 Elections are on the horizon and the nomination information has been sent out along with the Citizen of the Year nomination form.  Electronic voting along with paper ballots were introduced last year during COVID-19.  LLCRAS respects the way things have been done in the past as they are great building blocks for the future.  The most cost-effective way for the Society to run the voting process is electronic. Another cost saving way to obtain a ballot is to ask a friend or neighbour to print out the form found on our website www.loonlakecommunity.ca   But we are happy to mail out ballots to anyone wishing to vote in this manner.  Please note the majority of the members prefer their newsletters etc electronically.  We do have a small number of people who are always given the same information by Canada Post or occasionally even dropped off at their homes at Loon Lake.

LLCRAS has provided our members with a copy of the current Bylaws & Constitution (B & C) and a draft of a suggested B & C.  The B & C committee have suggested a two-year term for elections.  A one-year term goes by so fast the Officers/Directors are just getting comfortable in their positions and it’s time to go. If, LLCRAS changes to a two-year term we will also save time and money on the whole election process.  Valuable hours the Volunteers, Officers and Directors could be directing to other LLCRAS business. We are encouraging feedback on the draft B & C to be sent in writing to llcras.boardofdirectors@gmail.com or to 1705 Loon Lake Road, Cache Creek, BC V0K 1H1.  Information about the B & C suggested changes were also in a recent mail out.

LLCRAS rented the community hall to Election Canada on September 20th and will be receiving $300.00 for the rental.  This is most likely the last event we can hold for sometime as our much anticipated $150,000 renovation will be starting shortly.  Much work has been done to cull, organize and remove all sorts of items from the building and place in our Sea Can.  We are in good hands as Bert Bouwmeester, local contractor, has been hired for the work.  Owners, Shayne & Lindsay May of Pemberton Glass & Mirror, have kindly donated the new windows for this renovation.

We have received a very kind donation from Tree Island Steel of 650 feet of fencing, retail value $1,000.00 with 30 lbs. of nails.  This donation was facilitated by Debbie and Willie Ross and they delivered it to the dog park.  Susanne Kavalec, Dog Park Committee member, is designing the park with gates, a small dog area along with a separate entrance for dogs to calmly enter the park. Earlier this month, for a little whimsy, two fire hydrants were donated by the Anderson and Woronchak Families.  Should you wish to become involved or have something you may wish to donate please contact llcras.boardofdirectors@gmail.com or Susanne at 250-459-5698 or Karen at 250-459-2281.  Thanks for your consideration.

It’s not too late to submit entries in our photo contest ending September 30, 2021.  Great prizes!  Twelve winning entries will become part of our 2022 LLCRAS Photo Calendar Fundraiser.  https://loonlakecommunity.ca/photo-contest-2021/

We’d like to welcome Ann Peltier, from Cabins on the Lake, to our Boating Etiquette Committee.  Anne can be reached through LLCRAS at llcras.boardofdirectors@gmail.com as we will discuss and pass information onto Ann.

Team Work Makes the Dream Work!

Sincerely,

LLCRAS Officers and Directors
