January 11, 2021 – Snapshot of some of the activities in the Loon Lake Community

November

Met with the Membership Volunteers to brainstorm on how to proceed reaching members during COVID-19. Reminder that Membership Fees are due January 1st each year.

Final Fire Smart clean-up of the year at the horseshoe pits.  Included providing a truck load of firewood to a senior couple in our community. This was a win-win as it helped with the clean-up.

Set up Xmas Hamper monetary collection to assist Community Resource Society, helping families in need in communities surrounding Loon Lake.  Collected a total of $1,000.00

Larry Koster Contracting installed snow guards on the Community Hall roof.

Grant Committee submits Grant Application for Capital Project Grant requesting funds to improve many shortfalls in our aging Community Hall.  Many hours of work went into this submission; including securing quotes and submitting volunteer hours and donations for gift in kind consideration.

November Volunteer Appreciation Recipient was Mirka Urvalek.  Mirka is a vibrant and friendly volunteer for our Community.  She is on the Membership Committee and is constantly helping in any way she can at Work Bees, Meat Pies Fundraisers etc. Mirka was presented with a gift card.

December

Photo Contest Calendar Fundraiser.  Took orders and supplied calendars with proceeds going into the LLCRAS coffers.  Sales are winding up and we’ll have a profit total available soon.

“LLCRAS Christmas Train” was a spur of the moment idea that really blossomed and was

well received by many families in the Loon Lake Area. Santa and his Elf were definitely a big hit with all the children and their families who were excited to hear the Ho Ho Ho of our jolly Santa.

There has been lots of great feedback on the joy it brought to Loon Lakers.  Photos available on our Members of Loon Lake Road Community Recreational and Agricultural Society Facebook page.

Community Gaming Grants Branch replied that our Grant Application was unsuccessful. Grant Committee already seeking other funding.

Long Time Volunteer Appreciation Award given to Ted Crawford.  Ted recently ended his long-time service with the TNRD/LLVFD Fire Protection Services.  Ted was presented with a

2021 Look Lake Photo Contest Calendar.

December Volunteer Appreciation Recipients Barry and Janet Harman.  These two Loon Lakers continue to assist the Community with repairs, maintenance and artistic endeavors. They were awarded with a print donated by the Plottel Family.  Artist, Adam Plottel captured the 2017 wildfire on the south-side of the lake from Marigold Resort.

January

Membership Early Bird Draw winners are Jiri and Mirka.  They received a 2021 Loon Lake Photo Contest Calendar and a Loon Lake Logo T-Shirt. Jiri and Mirka donated the prize back to LLCRAS to be used for more fundraising.  Thank you very much!

Provided TNRD with two lease agreements for the TNRD/LLVFD Fire Protection Services use of the LLCRAS buildings at 1701 Loon Lake Road, commonly referred to as THE ANNEX or THE FIRE HALL and 1705 Loon Lake Road, commonly referred to as THE COMMUNITY HALL.  LLCRAS has provided use of these facilities for years.  The Community Hall was a command centre during the 2017 Elephant Hill Wildfire when unfortunately, The Annex burned to the ground.  Previously the lease agreement was verbal with the LLVFD.  Putting the lease agreement in writing makes sense for both parties.

Art Committee painted three small satellite dishes and request more donations to continue with the Sunflower Project Community initiative.
