Welcome to Loon Lake
Loon Lake is a picturesque and idyllic destination located in the Thompson Nicola region of British Columbia. Surrounded by a mixture of Douglas Fir and Ponderosa Pines, the 14.5 kilometres (9 miles) long Loon Lake offers a variety of activities all year round.
Loon Lake is nestled between the Bonaparte Plateau to the north and west and the Arrowstone Hills to the south and east. Access to the lake is gained by turning east off Highway 97 between the Villages of Cache Creek and Clinton. The turnoff is well marked on Hwy. 97 with signage indicating an 18 km. travel on paved road through the Loon Creek Valley.
Loon Lake is more than just a fabulous summer retreat for seasonal holidayers. It is a vibrant community made up of over 170 full time residents who host regular social occasions throughout the year. Annual events such as the winter carnival, summer horseshoe tournament and barbecue, flea market, pancake breakfast and other fun-filled events are designed to bring locals and visitors together in an atmosphere of amusement and socialization.
Of the many outdoor activities, fishing is the biggest draw. Loon Lake is naturally stocked with an abundant supply of rainbow trout. The deep and narrow Lake provides excellent angling success with fish ranging in size from 12 to 16 inches. Choose your rod type because both trolling and fly casting are equally popular fishing methods.
Other recreational activities include canoeing, kayaking, water skiing, snow-mobiling, ATV’ing, cross-country skiing, hiking, hunting and camping.
Loon Lake hosts several privately operated resorts which cater to outdoor enthusiasts from all walks of life.
The two most common statements that are often heard from visitors to Loon Lake are “holy smokes look at the deer” and “do the fish ever stop jumping?”
